Ian devoted many years of service to Cochrane Castle Golf Club, where his commitment, leadership, and passion for the game earned him the great honour of serving as Honorary President. He was also widely admired throughout Renfrewshire golf for his valued contribution to the wider game and for the friendship and encouragement he offered to so many.
A true gentleman, Ian represented all that is best in golf — integrity, sportsmanship, and camaraderie. His warmth, wisdom, and generosity of spirit made a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him, and his presence at the club will be deeply missed.
Ian leaves behind a proud legacy at Cochrane Castle Golf Club and within Renfrewshire golf. He will be remembered with great affection, respect, and gratitude. Our sincere condolences are extended to his family, friends, and all who knew him at this difficult time.
The following are some of the tributes received by the Club:
-
Last week's County Championship was played in a sad backdrop after the passing of our Honorary President, Renfrewshire Golf Union legend and our friend Ian Storie.
Ian passed away on the morning of Sunday 17th May - the morning of the strokeplay championship - a competition which he had overseen the running of, for the best part of 20 years.
Ian joined the RGU executive in 1994 and served as 'A' Team Manager (with Ian at the helm when we won our third Scottish Area Team Championship at Bathgate in 2005) before taking on the role of President in 2006 - 2007. Ian then took on the role as Secretary / Treasurer in 2008 before stepping down in December of last year at the RGU AGM when he was then bestowed the title of Honorary President of the Renfrewshire Golf Union.
Ian was a great character, very knowledgeable and a hugely respected figure with the golfing community - regionally and nationally.
Along with his tireless work for the RGU - Ian was a stalwart at his beloved Cochrane Castle Golf Club where he also served as Honorary President.
Our thoughts go out to Ian's wife Pat, daughter Aileen, son Graeme, grandchildren, family and many friends.
Ian's funeral service will take place at Woodside Cemetery & Crematorium (46 Broomlands Street, Paisley, PA1 2NP) on 10th June 2026 at 2.00pm. Friends are welcome to attend the service, followed by a gathering at Cochrane Castle Golf Club.
Thank you Ian. You will be sorely missed.

I was so sorry to hear about the passing of Ian Storie. He was such a lovely man. I have been the Club Secretary at Bonnyton for 18 years and spoke with him many times and he was always available to help me if I had a problem. He will be sorely missed.
